Chief Customer Officer (CCO)

Executive responsible for the entire customer lifecycle after sale - CS, support, services, education, advocacy.

Also known as: CCO, Chief Customer Success Officer

Definition

The CCO is the top customer-facing executive in many SaaS companies. Often reports to the CEO directly, sometimes to the CRO. Responsible for retention, expansion, NPS, customer health, and the post-sales motion. Whether a company has a named CCO (vs subsuming CS under sales/ops) is a meaningful structural signal - companies with public CCOs tend to disclose retention metrics more often and tie CCO comp to NRR.
